hi, there is no way to say this briefly so strap in. My story starts when I was about 13 years old. Three very key things happened all at the same time:
- My buddy Dan told me I had to learn how to produce because he wanted to create a rap group called "Original Kidz" so I downloaded FL Studio.
- I got a concussion so bad I had to wear sunglasses for a month and could not remember 90% of what happened on a daily basis.
- My parents' marriage came to a turbulent end and changed my life in ways my 13-year-old brain previously did not think possible.
So, as you might imagine, there were a lot of changes taking place on top of being a boy trying to navigate puberty. Alas, music found me at the right time.
This russian piano teacher told me, "You see this?" (pointing to the piano) "This will always be there. You press the key and it will sing back. It is more reliable than any person you know. Treat it well and it will reward you tenfold."
He did not lie
I was absolutley hooked. I spent the next 4 years rushing home from school make beats in my basement until i fell asleep at my laptop. my grades dipped and school became something i "just had to get through" i even went as far as sneaking into this make shift studio setup our school had in the band room during lunch. the band director wouldnt give me the key so i would have to scheme every day and make up stories to get other teachers to lend me their keys. nothing was going to get in my way of an opportunity to make music, especially if it meant escaping that prison(even if only mentally) for 30 minutes.
